Beny Aterdit Bol

Bio

Beny holds two master’s degrees: Master of International Law from Griffith University, Australia and Master of Governance, Public Policy and Development from the University of Queensland, Australia. He also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, Politics and Government from Griffith University.

Beny is former President of the Queensland African Communities Council (QACC) – an umbrella organisation that represents more than 80,000 people and organisations of African descent in QLD. He was also a Senior Manager for Youth Engagement and Community Partnerships with Queensland Programs of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma (QPASTT) and is Member of the Queensland Parole Board and sits on two expert strategic policy advisory roles for the Minister of Education and Youth Justice, and ministerial Multicultural Queensland Advisory Council. He was also appointed in 2024 to the newly established policy expert body – the Youth Justice Sector Strategic Advisory Group (YJSSAG) by the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP).

His leadership created the popular and large annual events like the Mandela Cup, AfriQueensland Awards Night, Africa’s Cup of Nations, and re-instated the iconic Africa Day Festival in Queensland. He also remarkably developed a strategic partnership with the University of Queensland to start rolling out in schools the first-ever project that will teach African and other students in Australia about the work of Raymond Dart – a UQ’s graduate, World War I trauma surgeon and scientist whose discovery proved that humans really originated from Africa, and to encourage African children to study science and broadly pursue university’s education. This initiative involves prominent African scholars around the world and the University of Queensland.

Beny was Programs Manager at Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off the Streets Ltd for more than 9 years, establishing and managing its first programs in Queensland and Victoria respectively.

Beny is an author of two books titled The Ambition and Determination of an Orphan: God in Firm Hope, 2013, 2015; and Blessed and Unblessed: my tragic loss that made me question God’s existence and desires, 2025.

Beny is a recipient of several government and community’s awards including Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), University of Queensland’s Vice-Chancellor’s Alumni Excellence Award 2024, Griffith University’s Young Alumnus of the Year 2022, Australia’s National Monument to Migration Honours list 2022, Minister’s Multicultural Award 2021, In 2022, Beny’s name was added to the wall of the Australia’s National Monument to Migration in recognition and honour of his contribution to Australia. He represented Australia in various capacities in international conferences on matters of youth, refugees, settlement, human rights and systemic policy issues, including CHoGM (Commonwealth Heads of States and Governments Meeting), the Annual Tripartite Consultation on Resettlement in Geneva where he was selected as one of a panel of 3 persons discussing the resettlement and global equitable intake of refugee.
